The transition from Americana towards graphic design within paintings

Berisford studied graphic design in London before embarking on an award-winning 25 year career in advertising. In 2019 he moved to The Bay Area. Captivated by the effervescent light and abundant retro Americana, he began to feverishly paint. Two years into Californian life, he quit his job to become a full-time artist and hasn’t looked back.

Drawing on his background as a creative director, Berisford composes strong and graphic work, often using large amounts of negative space to offset the subject matter, with ideas and visual narratives integral to the craft.

He is very selective over his materials which includes Michael Harding handmade oil paints, that give his work a sumptuous finish and additional richness in ambient or gallery lighting.

Above all else, it is the California color palette that occupies the biggest space in Berisford’s mind. His “Pantone Paintings” that lean into his career as a graphic designer and creative director, cleverly distil a precise moment and place in time to just a few emotive colors.

Making his solo debut in September 2024 at Gallery LUNA RIENNE in the Mission District, San Francisco, Berisford’s work sells to collectors in California, Florida, The Midwest and New York as well as his native London.

In the fall of 2025, Berisford moved into a studio and gallery space in Berkeley.
